Bahama Bucks History
It all began on a sunny day in 1990 when a youngster named Blake Buchanan opened a small shaved ice cream stall in Lubbock.
Usually, most college students would work at a part-time job or as a delivery boy. He didn’t like all that.
How can he when the weather is so hot and delivery work always asks you to be under the sun for half of the day?
So the night shifts were always in high demand among students, and it’s no wonder that not all managed to get that shift.
That’s why he decided to start a small stand, which would give him enough money to run by the summer. Or maybe save enough for a movie ticket or two.
He never intended to keep this business alive. But to his surprise, it slowly started attracting a lot of customers.
His summer goal was already finished in a few days, and now he had a lot to spare. Then he decided to give his 100% as a shaved ice cream seller.
And he did just that. He converted the small stand into a restaurant by hand. Enlisting volunteers from the college he was studying at.
Before eventually staffing them with a salary. How can anyone say no to that? By mid-1993, Bahama Bucks had started franchising, and it had about 3 locations in Tempe, Arizona.
Do you remember the biggest shaved ice in the world? It was spotted in 2010, and it was quite viral too.
And as you can already guess, it was made by none other than Bahama Bucks. The Guinness Book of World Records enlisted it as the biggest shaved ice, measuring 15 feet 6 inches and 25,080 lbs.
Business went crazy at this point, and soon Bahama Bucks crossed the three-digit mark.

This scary combo tastes exactly like you’d expect. Super sweet and creamy. The syrup they used goes all the way.
But those toppings don’t so make sure to savor each piece before the ice starts melting. Next up is another unique dish called Açaí Bowl.
It’s a healthy mixture of Açaí palm, strawberries, bananas, nut-free granola, coconut flakes, and honey. It doesn’t taste bad; in fact, it’s probably the best out of the three.
