Bakers Square History

Bakers Square Inside

Bakers Square was first spotted in 1969 as the Mrs. C’s in Des Moines, Iowa. It was a small bakery, aka bistro, that was that popular.

Until it started baking pies, which led to some local rumors of a good place. Following that rumor, a new investor named Pillsbury popped up in their house.

He thought it might be a big place, so he’ll buy the franchising rights. To his surprise, it was a run-down place about to die.

So he bought the entire place and started expanding on its own. Let us confirm that we don’t know who initially founded this place.

It was so insignificant that no one bothered recording it. Or maybe there are some online records, but Google just refuses to index them.

Anyway, that’s not that important. This location was then renamed Poppin’ Fresh Pies, which quickly turned into a popular name.

It soon caught the eyes of VICORP, who at the time had already acquired Village Inn which is a casual dining restaurant in the United States. Click here and learn more about the Village Inn menu and prices.

Both Village Inn and Poppin’ Fresh Pies saw the same past. They rose together and also fell together.

VICORP went bankrupt on April 3, 2008, leaving both chains at their mercy. And yeah, the name was changed to Bakers Square under VICORP.

It probably happened after the acquisition of Eric A. Holm, which sounds similar to Sherlock Holmes. His home plays a significant role in his story, as stated on Baker Street.

That’s how the name came to be, or at least that’s what we think. Anyway, after the bankruptcy, Bakers Square suffered major losses.

Closing 80 out of 90 locations by the end of next year. The numbers are very slim, even to this day, with only nine locations.

Bakers Square Review

It’s about time we dug into the real deal. But before that, make sure to have a quick look at the Bakers Square menu prices given above.

With that, let’s check out our first item on the list, and it’s a slice of No-Sugar-Added Apple Pie. How can we review a pie-specialized store without testing its blend of apple pies?

It’s a cult classic that takes careful consideration to master. Their blend used Michigan Northern Spy apples.

It was seasoned with Saigon cinnamon, a flaky pastry crust, and NutraSweet®. Most of them came from their kitchen.

Like the crust and the last one. Well, that much is expected, and yeah, it doesn’t taste bad at all. In fact, it’s quite balanced with its flavor.

There is no added sugar, and still, it tastes just like any apple pie. That NutraSweet® did some work, or maybe these apples are naturally sweet.

Regardless, it is certain that this pie rocks. It is baked to perfection and has a sweet aroma that explodes upon taking the first bite.

Next up is the Baker’s Scrambler. It’s a breakfast dish that uses a lot of ingredients to make it both tasty and healthy.

You can expect Scrambled eggs, cream cheese, ham, mushrooms, green peppers, tomatoes, onions, and breakfast potatoes with melted cheddar cheese.

The portion was absolutely massive, too. Generic portions are what good restaurants usually give. This one will get a few points of its own, that’s for sure.

Everything is mingled together, so all you need to do is pick up your spoon, fill it, and start chowing down.

The egg makes each bite savory, while the other ingredients give it a complex flavor, so the experience lasts long enough to leave a mark. And yeah, we had a few bowls of fresh fruits.

Final Thoughts

I can say with pride that Bakers Square is no joke. The breakfast lineup is absolutely to die about.

We didn’t have the opportunity to try lunch and dinner items, but we are confident enough to say that they will be great too.

10/10, no questions asked. Both the pie and the scrambled dish tasted good. It is the complexities that the dish originally needs.

While adding a few health-conscious items so it doesn’t hurt your tummy. This is one hell of a place, and we will definitely come here for seconds.
