Black Rock Coffee Bar History
Black Rock Coffee Bar had three families behind its back. The first one was a father-son combo of John and Ryan Hagler.
The second pair had the same thing going on for them, and their names were Daniel Brand and Jeremy Brand.
At last, the third family was Rob Hernandez, who helped in summing up the principal amount. Later, his son Jeff stepped up as the CEO of this chain.
A quiet place in Portland, Oregon, was chosen as the base of operations in 2008 when Black Rock Coffee Bar was given shape and form at once.
Now it serves more than just coffee; you can get breakfast, some fast foods, energy drinks, and more.
There was some competition back then, especially from Mecca. Anyway, community service played a big role for them.
Saving their grace at the worst time possible, COVID-19 But it didn’t stop their growing streak; it eventually grew from 80 to 130 stores as of now.
The company also says that they will open at least 30 stores each year. With that, their competitors have grown too; now Starbucks and even Dutch Bro. can be officially counted as their challengers.
Anyway, their quality still remains far above the rest since they roast their beans in small batches, giving optimal control over temperature, which is a major factor when it comes to great coffee.
Black Rock also has a variety of stores, including drive-thru, sit-down, both, and sit-down only. More efforts are needed towards drive-thru parts since that’s where most coffee lovers come in.
The use of modern software solutions has also played a big role in their smooth operation. Especially 7-shift, which all Black Tock store owners use to the fullest.

We went to 7434 N. Vancouver Ave., Portland, so our food department will be a bit different. Our first pick was a cup of donut holes.
It’s exactly what it sounds like a cup full of small, tasty doughnuts. These are shaped like a small golf ball, so you can eat them in one bite.
Sugar-powder-coated, these small goodies were just the best. Freshly baked, there is no doubt that we will eat it at least two more times before leaving.
If you love meat, then get a ham and Swiss croissant. The outside part is crunchy and tastes quite delicious; meanwhile, the ham filling would be enough protein for the morning rush.
Next up was Hot Caramel Truffle, a hot blend with hot caramel, obviously. It comes in four portions and can be paired with whipped cream.
Milk alternatives are also there for lactose-intolerant people. Well, I don’t mind either way, so my choice was half-sugar.
Quite creamy, and a larger cup when compared to what Starbucks offers. Our store had a promo drink going on, so we had a quick look at that.
I personally ordered a spring roast. It was an experimental drink with a smooth, rich, medium blend.
The flavor was definitely a bit wonky to go around. Honey and dark chocolate don’t go well in the first place, but roasted almonds too?
It’s one of those older types where you are required to drink a bit before the target flavor starts to shine.
