Brio Italian Grille History

Brio Italian Grille Inside

It all began with Bravo Development, Inc., which was founded by two brothers, Rick and Chris Doody, in 1992.

It only had one restaurant under its control, and that was Bravo! Cucina Italiana. It is a casual dining restaurant, as you already guessed by now, and it aims to open a few more over the year.

It was the time when Italian and Mexican cuisines were in high demand. Eventually making any attempt to enter these markets a success.

A few years later, a new concept was introduced, and it was called Brio Tuscan Grille. This basically focused on fast food. Using grilled and fried meats along with Italian touches like salad dressing.

The public offering started in 2010 with a new name, Bravo Brio Restaurant Group. The company managed to raise its net profit by $62.4 million with these offers.

Then began the usual back and forth of acquisition and sale of the company. The first one happened in 2018, and the buyer was Spice Private Equity Ltd.

The brand was renamed FoodFirst Global Restaurants. This didn’t affect the name of the restaurants. Only the management company managing the stocks was changed.

The deal was set at $100 million, and each shareholder got $4.05 per share in cold, hard cash.

They had about 110 stores with both chains combined. The yearly sales numbers were crossing 400 million dollars.

Somewhere in the middle, the management company was renamed again to FoodFirst Global Holdings Inc.

Then it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on April 10, 2020, in the Middle District of Florida. It was expected since COVID-19 had a big effect on this chain, along with many others.

The overall numbers dropped down to 70 at this point. The final acquisition happened on June 12, 2020, by Earl Enterprises.

Brio Italian Grille Review

Italians always have interesting dishes. So make sure to check out Brio Italian Grille menu prices before going there.

Our lunch began with a full plate of Pasta Brio. This item is unavoidable in any Italian restaurant. Pasta, lasagna, and soups are their specialty. Now let’s see how good or bad this dish is.

It came with rigatoni and grilled chicken as the main protein choices. There were also mushrooms, spinach, and red peppers with roasted red pepper cream sauce.

As this spicy fragrance! Should I be happy? or sad? Still, everything else looks appetizing. I mean, of course, it would be spicy. And yet this fieryness only makes me eat more.

Caesar salad made it much easier to eat. Anyway, as far as the texture goes, it’s pasta, alright? It tastes, smells, and executes all the flavors just like any other pasta.

The main star of the show is the grilled chicken and the sauce. Probably the sauce, since this one bad boy brings out all the flavors this dish has to offer.

Hot ones aren’t my pick. But if duty calls, then I won’t back down. If I had a choice, on the other hand, then I’d probably have it once or twice a month; that’s it.

Anyway, let’s move on to our next one, and it’s called Crispy Chicken Chopped Salad. King of the first dish, without the pasta part.

It comes with a Romano-crusted chicken, a worthy KFC challenger that uses grated Romano cheese, breadcrumbs, and some other stuff before being fried in a pan.

Yes, it’s pan-fried until it reaches its usual golden-brown state. As for the salad and side, you’ll get tomato, cucumber, lettuce mix, and feta in Tuscan Italian dressing.

Final Thoughts

Italian restaurants are crumbling in this day and age. It’s the Tex-Mex era, and it has affected many chains throughout the world.

Italian restaurants like Brio Italian Grille are the biggest victims of this. But this one didn’t die; it has survived in slightly more than 50 locations.

Regardless, one thing remained unchanged, and that’s the food. I can say it has grown even better since more dishes are being added.

They don’t cost cheap in any way. But when we consider their past, it’s surprising that they are even standing.

So as for our final conclusion, Brio Italian Grille gets 6.5/10. Great dishes, high prices, and not-so-generous portions. The flaws are as clear as they can be, and we hope they get fixed soon.
