Buca di Beppo History
Phil Roberts founded this chain in 1993. He tried to imitate an existing chain called Red Sauce Joints, an Italian-American family restaurant.
Phil wasn’t an Italian himself. And yet he wanted to develop a place that wouldn’t be the best in town, but it would be good at not being bad too.
Sounds complicated, right? Yeah, same here. Anyways, he hired Vittorio Renda as his chef and his son as the architect for his building.
His son redesigned the place and hung many Italian family photographs bought from the nearest flea market.
Those photos were placed everywhere, and you can clearly see the same trend being followed to this day.
Joseph Micatrotto joined the gang in 1996 as the first CEO. The business was about to go public at this point, so he remodeled a few things based on his Italian background.
Did you know that the first restaurant was actually called Buca Little Italy? Yes, and it was registered under Parasole Restaurant Holdings.
It spun off and became independent in 1998, and then the name was also changed to the current one.
By the end of the 20th century, Buca Di Beppo had about 21 locations. Around the same time, public offerings began under Buca, Inc.
In 2001, the company acquired a Boston-based chain called Vinny Testa Restaurant. And this is where the annoyances began happening.
Staff were interchanged between these two, and unfortunately, a good amount of people from Testa turned out to be corrupt.
The U.S. The Securities and Exchange Commission ordered an investigation in 2005 for tax fraud.
This problem didn’t stop there; many similar cases kept happening that did a number on the name and reputation of this brand. At its peak, it had more than 70 locations across 22 states.
Buca di Beppo Review
Before moving forward, make sure to have a quick look at the Buca di Beppo menu prices given above. We’ll try out some limited orders, so maybe you won’t see it on your visit.
Items aren’t universally available, and UK vs USA items will definitely have differences. Anyways, our first item on the list is a sliced chicken sandwich.
This is a new sandwich that was launched not so long ago. It uses my favorite toasted ciabatta bread.
The slices are in just the right order. Not too thick or not too slim. Apart from that, you’ll also get layers of lemon aioli, shaved chicken, and thinly sliced tomato.
The second protein layer will include provolone, shaved onions, applewood smoked bacon, and avocado.
It’s a big 15-buck meal, so this much was expected. The protein choices are especially extravagant.
Ingredients are thinly sliced, so we didn’t have any trouble biting through it. And the best part was the chicken and bacon, which had a great aroma to it.
Overall, it’s a solid breakfast super meal that has a lot of calories and vitamins to go through half of the day.
But if you are here for a midday meal, then look forward to Chicken Saltimbocca. But come on, sandwich at lunch? Nah, let’s try something else. And this is where this chicken saltimbocca comes in.
It’s a fantastic dish that uses lemon butter sauce, prosciutto, sage, artichoke quarters, capers, and a choice of your side.
You can go for spaghetti, beans, or Italian Broccoli Romano like I did. Well, broccoli is an unusual side dish, and obviously, I’ll try that out.
As far as the flavors go, it’s fantastic! I can’t expect any less. It is a hot pick, and the reason is crystal now.

Final Thoughts
Surprisingly, the place didn’t force any religious thing. You’ll usually expect these from a place that boasts about Pope Table.
Anyways, like our crew said, the food is beyond good. The experience isn’t unique, but the flavors are just on the spot.
The second item in particular had the best flavors out of all. Buca di Beppo came a long way, from a bad reputation to being the Pope’s favorite.
Anyway, our team is excited to announce the results. And Buca di Beppo officially gets 8 out of 10. Like we said, not a unique experience, but it’s a place where no one would leave a plate empty.
