Denny’s History
Harold Butler and Richard Jezak founded this amazing restaurant in 1953. Their original idea was to serve country-style donuts.
That’s why it was initially named Danny’s Donuts. But Jezak left the business just three years later, leaving Harold all to himself.
So he changed the concept from a donut shop to a cafe. That’s how Denny’s Cafe was born. This was the turning point for Harold, who had nerves of steel.
He made sure that Denny’s stayed open 24/7, serving fresh coffee and fast meals. It was even open on holidays, which takes real guts to do so.
In the 1950s, two famous architects called Armet and Davis created a prototype for Denny’s with a boomerang-shaped roof.
This prototype soon became an international phenomenon, and you can pretty much see it right now at many Denny’s stores.
Denny’s did not close its shop unless forced by law, so his shop had a steady supply of customers. Meanwhile, the 24/7 concept was new, so it got lots of love from everyone.
But the franchising wouldn’t begin until Danny got his trademark name. In 1959, Harold changed its name to Denny’s Coffee Shop to avoid confusion with a similar-sounding business.
Then, in 1961, he decided to file a patent and trademark Denny’s, which then became its permanent name.
Franchising started just two years after that. The 24/7 concept was so revolutionary that by the 1980s, Denny’s had over 1000 stores across all states of the USA.
It became one of the fastest-growing businesses ever. In 1994, Denny’s became the first big corporate sponsor of the Save the Children Fund.
It’s a national charity organization that uses its funds to make the lives of children from poor countries better.
Denny’s Review
Denny’s is filled with a plethora of dishes. The 24/7 concept took a huge hit after the COVID-19 pandemic. But that doesn’t mean the menu has become any less interesting.
Now most Denny’s menu and prices are adjusted for the post-COVID era. Anyway, we arrived at lunchtime, so it was a perfect time to try something different.
First, we ordered a plate of Grand Slamwich. It was a breakfast dish; well, no one stopped us, so who cares?
This looked appetizing enough, and the ingredients proved why. It had scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and ham.
Along with American cheese on potato bread, which was again grilled with a maple spice spread. We also got Hash Brown as a bonus, so that’s that.
The cheese was an unusual addition, but it felt good. Meanwhile, the scrambled egg and bacon gave it the authentic taste that Denny’s is famous for.
Well, this wasn’t enough, so we decided to have a quick look at Denny’s menu, and we saw an unusual dish called Strawberry Stuffed.
French Toast Slam was a specialty dish that had four slices of brioche French toast stuffed with sweet cream and cheese filling.
It was further topped with strawberries, strawberry sauce, and powdered sugar. Protein options were the same as the first one; just ham was replaced with sausage.
We all know what strawberry is, but how did it taste with a French toast? Well, it was godly! We never knew that strawberries could have this level of flavor.
It was creamy, crunchy, sweet, and salty all at once. Meanwhile, the scrambled eggs gave it the original French toast texture we all know.
In the end, we had one glass of milk each. It washed down all the mixed flavors those two left in our mouths.

Final Thoughts
All we can say is WOW! Denny’s is one of the best cafes, and now we know why. How can we miss this chain all this time?
KFC and Mexican dishes had us hooked for quite a while. But now we are officially joining the fan club of Denny’s.
Denny’s menu has everything that we want. Each dish looks unique, while the ingredients are wacky as hell!
But in the end, the flavor was what the true champion was. It tasted so good that we went for seconds. We know that you will, too.
