Fox’s Pizza Den History
Jim Fox founded this massive chain in 1971 in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania. It’s his hometown, where he planned to start his business one way or another.
His motivation behind pizza comes from its origin, and as with most Italian dishes, it got him hooked. Yet something was missing—maybe a bit of salt?
Anyway, he started experimenting and eventually developed his own recipe in his kitchen. His family loved it, his friends loved it, and even strangers passing by said, “They love it!”
That was enough push that he needed to move forward with his dream. Now all he needed were funds; unfortunately, that turned out to be a stretch.
With no solid job or financial background, getting a business loan was out of the question. So he went looking for a cheap location with $500 in his pocket.
He used around half of it to rent a place and the rest to buy second-hand items and utensils for baking pizzas.
On his first day at the opening, he started baking pizzas and finished his first batch around 4 p.m. Little did he know that it was his first day putting the sold-out plate out as well.
Over the next 6 hours, he made more batches, and all of them got sold out before nightfall. And that’s how America’s Best Pizza was born!
Franchising began just two years later in Harrison City, not so far from its original location. After opening his fourth location, he decided to adopt modern methods in the food industry.
One of them was Home Delivery, which was the same good old door-to-door delivery system without any internet.

Unfortunately, salads were nowhere to be found. Removed maybe? Well, in that case, let’s try another well-rounded dish called Turkey Breast Hoagie.
Another classic Italian dish that is pretty famous among young people. It included a grilled turkey with melted mozzarella, along with provolone cheese.
As toppings, you’ll get lettuce, tomato, and mayo. It comes in two sizes: 13″ or half. Get the half; maybe the texture feels weird for some.
So it’s best to go for a smaller one and order another if you think it’s good. Get extra sour cream, which makes it much easier to eat while enhancing the flavor.
