Original Tommy’s History
The Original Tommy’s was founded by the son of a Greek immigrant, Tom Koulax. It’s no surprise that many fast food concepts came here from outside.
TexMex, for example, is more or less Mexican, and there we have Italian, Chinese, and so on. These burgers are also one of them that became the heart of America soon enough.
Tom Koulax named his stand Tommy’s. He chose a small corner in Beverly, somewhere in the downtown area of Los Angeles.
It took quite a while before his tiny stand got enough attention. But there wasn’t a single dull moment in his life.
He worked hard and gave his utmost attention to any customer that passed by. That was the exact reason why customers chose to return for more.
Overheard word got out that Beverly has this tiny stand that sells the world’s best hamburgers! It happened in the middle of the 1950s, and it came hard.
The time goes by, and now we are in the 1960s. This is when Tom decided to expand his stands to other locations.
To mitigate the huge numbers of customers he was getting, it took him about 20 years, but it helped him stack up a loyal user base that won’t budge until the last breath.
By this point, Tommy’s was so popular that copycats started popping up left and right. This was a bad time indeed; there were a lot of legal battles, and yet those bad guys never learned.
The brand name underwent a drastic change, from Tommy’s to Original Tommy’s World Famous Hamburgers, and after that, it was simplified to Original Tommy’s as we know it today.
Unfortunately, these copycats managed to confuse customers; some even gained a lot in the process and then renamed their businesses to escape any legal obligations.

We went to Valentine Road in Ventura and experienced everything firsthand. First on our list was a popular dish called chili cheese fries.
It’s the most popular item on the list, which is made of hot and spicy fries! Or we can say, a spicy layer over the regular fries.
Along with American cheese, which will act as an intermediary between the overwhelming taste of this specific item.
It’s quite greasy, so we guess not everyone will like it. But at least try it once; it had a great taste, and the herbal mixture of spices felt good.
A getaway from the regular boring fries with fire in your belly! Next up was the infamous California Classic Cheeseburger.
This bad boy was made with 100% all-beef patties and served inside a fresh bun with Thousand Island dressing.
Get a load of cheese, leaf lettuce, pickles, hand-sliced beefsteak tomato, and freshly chopped onions.
Add extra bacon, and you are good to go. This was a true masterpiece, and the pickle had a huge impact on the overall taste.
It was sour, tangy, salty, and a bit sweet too. All this in the form of a compact burger, and adding bacon just took it to a new height.
All we can say is that it tastes much better than we can describe. Just try it once, and you’ll know exactly what’s going on.
