Pal’s History

Pal’s Menu And Prices

This brand was founded in 1956 by Fred “Pal” Barger in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was highly inspired by the industry’s giants like KFC, which led him to open this chain.

Just a year before that, he attended a National Restaurant Convention in Chicago. Where he met Raymond Albert Kroc, the future owner of McDonald’s, along with Fred Turner.

They had a great discussion about how Ray opened his first McDonald’s store and managed to climb up the ladder quite fast.

Strategies, tactics, and insights were shared among many attendees. And that’s given our founder hope that maybe he can do it too.

He didn’t waste any more time and opened his first store just a year after that. The name was based on his middle part, Pal.

Pal’s is not a big name on the market. But it’s often seen as a star when it comes to private fast food chains.

That’s not all though; Pal’s is also known for its rigorous training period that includes pop quizzes and over 200 hours of performance-based activities.

This resulted in far less turnover, and it is still continuing to this day. It can be often seen in competition and case studies in industrial and organizational psychology.

The biggest achievement comes not from the training or food; instead, it comes from both of them. The current CEO, Thom Crosby, joined the business in 1981.

He did an excellent job in turning the tides toward the quality and service that is unmatched even among giants like McDonald’s.

And that eventually landed them the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2001. Remember that Pal’s is the only restaurant in this segment to receive this award.

As far as the numbers go, the majority of them are located in the Tri-Cities, Tennessee metro regions only.

Are you still confused about the prices? Well, just have a quick look at Pal’s menu prices up there. Rest should be easy.

Anyways, let’s move on to our first dish, and it’s called Country Ham Biscuit. It’s a simple appetizer that literally uses two real country hams on a fresh biscuit.

Nothing too fancy, but this simple dish can surprise you with its pure taste. It’s just perfect from every angle, and we insist that you try it too.

Next up is the classic Big Pal. Make sure to combo it with fries and drinks. Because there isn’t much to offer at this place.

There aren’t many fancy items. But whatever is on the menu is a masterpiece on its own. As for our Big Pal, it uses a 1/3-lb all-beef patty.

And many layers of mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and bacon. You can swap or skip the last two ingredients, as they come as additionals.

And again, Pal’s isn’t trying anything smart. Instead, this is just the perfect burger that anyone would expect. And man, oh man, does this taste good?

There is nothing greater than not having weird flavors in your mouth. The tomatoes are fresh, the patty is warm, and the onions are sweet.

And when you pair them with cheese or bacon, this transcends from a burger to a heavenly bite like never before.

Yet another simple, but masterfully made dish. No wonder Pal’s always has tons of pals on its doorstep. Now let’s have a look at their own spin of Frenchie Fry.

This looks like any other french fries on paper. But the minute it gets close to your face, everything starts looking different. It is well-cooked to a golden brown. But the real deal begins with its special seasoning salt.

Final Thoughts

We didn’t expect that the fries would have this much difference when compared to the first two items we had.

This is a unique dish that changed my mind about this place. Now I can be sure that Pal has more than meets the eye.

Now comes the moment of truth, and after careful consideration, our team decided to give Pal’s full 10 out of 10.

Unfortunately, we cannot give any less than a perfect 10. This place is a masterpiece on its own, and I can only give it my utmost respect, nothing more, nothing less.
