Panago History

Panago Inside

Panago was founded in 1986 by the Rooke family in Abbotsford, British Columbia. It was a series of three stores under the name “Panagopoulos 2 for 1 Pizza Place.”.

The name was eventually shortened over time with both customer reviews and some logical thinking. Like come on, even a toddler can see that name is far too long.

So it went to Panagopoulos Pizza Place between the 90s and the early 2000s. The word “Panagopoulos” can be seen as many things.

On one hand, it is a family’s name; on the other, it can be described as a chick or nestling, which roughly translates to a newborn.

A newborn or new business? Well, that’s rather filling in this particular case. Anyways, the logo saw some drastic changes too.

Right now, Panago is the logo itself with bold black characters. But in the past, it was printed in serif fonts and vibrant colors and also used both italic and bold characters.

It sounds funny in this day and age, but in the 90s that was the trend. It changed again right before 2000, along with its name.

The last chance was around 2010 when the name was shortened for the final time to Panago. A short and easy name without any weird synonyms.

Panago only had one goal in mind, and that was to serve the freshest pizzas, not only meat. The Panago menu now also offers veggie pizzas.

With popular demand, plant-based options were subsequently added. It is a modern standard that can transform simple plants to stimulate the texture, smell, and flavors of meat too.

Panago has both the knowledge and experience to manage that, and it did. You can see these in Beyond Meat, plant-based cheese, meat-free pepperoni, and so on.

Before moving on, make sure to have a quick look at the Panago menu with prices given above. Prices can change, but the menus won’t, at least not right now.

So find your dear meal and mark that in. Although Panago home delivery is available in more than 6 provinces, it’s still better than sorry.

Anyway, let’s start our day with this awesome new plant-based summer BBQ. I’m like most of you guys who are skeptical about plant-based meats.

They can have negative effects due to too many chemical ingredients. While meat, well, it simply uses meat. This particular dish has plant-based cheese instead of meat.

It uses the traditional red onions, extra fire-roasted corn, jalapeño peppers, and BBQ sauce.

It costs $22.50 for a 14-inch crust. Remember that different Panago locations may have different price tags.

This is the price bracket for West Vancouver. Anyway, surprisingly, the plant-based cheese isn’t bad. It’s not the mark, and that’s expected.

But the flavors are almost there. The texture, on the other hand, is mild behind the real deal. But you know what! Other ingredients make up for that loss.

The onions have their usual great taste-boosting capabilities. The roasted corn and peppers make it a bit spicy, which pretty much makes the loss of texture invisible.

We had a vegan-friendly meal at first. So now it’s time for some New York Deli. It uses 100% organic tomato sauce, made from scratch every day.

Along with pepperoni and a mozzarella + cheddar combo that makes the dough extra fluffy. But we are only getting to the good part.

With crazy additions like spicy Italian sausage, Genoa salami, bacon, and Canadian ham, this dish transforms itself from just a 25-buck meal to a hunger-killing deal!

Final Thoughts

Although both cost about the same, the difference in taste and value for money is too much. The texture of the meat pizza is a million times better than the plant-based alternative.

It also uses a new recipe that uses 25% more ingredients while coating 10% less than before. Still, we can’t deny that the addition of plant-based pizza and veggie pizzas had a significant effect on Panago.

Thanks to this, the brand now has numerous deals to offer lunches at all kinds of schools. Some have strict rules about meat, some don’t, and some only allow plan-based ones.

Overall, the business practices they used turned out great. And with that, our crew proudly awards Panago with 9/10.
