Pizza Pit History
Pizza Pit was conceived in 1969 in the Greater Madison Area. The name of the founder has been clouded for so long.
But for the time being, Robby Bisbee is the CEO and President of Pizza Pit. The first store had the iconic Red Triangle decor on the front.
Later locations followed the same principle and kept on decorating the front portion like the very first Pizza Pit.
Over the years, the inside saw a rapid change, from pit burner to oven. But one part remained the same, and that’s the making process.
Everything is made from scratch except the ingredients. Like dough, custom-blended pizza cheese, and homemade pizza sauce.
These signatures are what separate them from the rest, and yeah, how can we forget their motto, “Fresh, Fast, and Hot Delivery.”
Records show that Pizza Pit has sold more than 35 million pizzas since day one. With that came many awards, from Best Pizza by Madison Magazine to Best Delivered Food in Madison by Isthmus.
Franchising began a few years after the initial launch, and with that came many challenges. Especially for the franchised locations that suffered tight competition from Pizza Hut and Pizza King.
For example, Pizza Pit of Mills was run by two brothers called Steve and Tammy Meier. They bought the franchising rights in 2012 and, as always, fought against countless opponents.
They knew what makes a good business: a good attitude and service that does what it promises. Their business grew from an unknown brand to an iconic place in Mills.
Around February 2023, Tony’s Pizza Pit, a 50-year-old location in the Arlington community, got engulfed in flames. The firefighters managed to cool down the fire, and thankfully, no lives were lost.
Pizza Pit Review
Well, you must have quite a lot of questions about the Pizza Pit menu and prices. We did too, and their website was quite a mess.
Anyway, our crew was near the border of Cambridge, and it’s the perfect time to check it out.
First, we ordered a batch of Classic Pit Pizza. This one dish is enough to show how good or bad these oldies are.
Make sure to customize it, because there are a lot of interesting sides to it. For example, the husky crust is the best one of all.
Canadian Bacon, Alfredo Sauce, and a lot of veggies like onion, tomato, Canadian mushroom, etc.
And believe me, this is far better than going for the default one. Because our team didn’t like that a bit. It was good, but there was nothing signatory in it.
But with these fresh ingredients and greenery, we can guess how it was made. Everything seemed to be made from scratch, and each ingredient was carefully placed.
No onions were soggy, and the meat portion was well-cooked. It was probably made right when we ordered, which is the best part about it.
And yeah, with these combinations, the dish changed from an ordinary pizza to a unique one that we can write a free passage on.
Next up was 1 LB Chicken, a new addition to the Pizza Pit menu that isn’t even a decade old. Comes with delicious meaty-breaded chicken wings and 1 dipping sauce of your choice.
Get Tangy BBQ as a dipping sauce; that one is the best one on the list. The crunchy wings go pretty well with a tangy flavor.
A simple mixture of salt and sugar dramatically improved the firepower of this dish. It didn’t just taste good; it forced us to go for seconds.

Final Thoughts
Pizza Pit is one of the best locations in Madison, but it’s even better here in Cambridge. It’s still new, so we may see some other menus migrate here over time.
For now, items are limited in number, especially the pizza part. Surprisingly, their chicken wings probably have a bigger impact than their signature pizza itself.
Currently, Pizza Pit has 10 active locations. Tony’s just suffered a big loss, so that one is out of commission for now. Redevelopment has already begun, so we might see the grand opening somewhere this year.
Anyway, that’s just personal speculation. But this much is certain: Pizza Pit has stayed in business for about 55 years, and it’s not just luck; it’s true skill and dedication.
