Quiznos History
Jimmy Lambatos and Todd Disner founded Quiznos in 1981 in Denver, Colorado. It was right around the corner from the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
Jimmy was an experienced chef who worked at Colorado Mine Co. Steakhouse as Executive Chef, and he also founded another Italian restaurant named Footers in 1978.
With his expertise, he made unique and special items for his new restaurant, featuring baguette-style bread, dressings, and recipes new to the city.
His signature recipe included toasting the sandwich. He used to say that warming up a food brings the true flavors lost deep within the cold area.
This idea soon transformed his small restaurant into a mega-growth that crossed 5,000 by 2007.
Franchising officially began in 1983 under the name Quiznos American, Inc. In 1987, a 23-year-old youngster bought the franchising rights along with his father.
He opened it in a shopping center in Boulder. He established three more locations before he purchased the entire chain in 1991.
He then renamed the chain yet again, Quiznos Franchise Corp., and Rick took over the position of president and soon CEO too.
The public offering started in 1994 with one million shares at $5 each, resulting in $4.4 million by the end of the year.
Quiznos has boosted its expansion plan and will have over 100 locations by the end of next year. In 1997, it entered the world ranking as the third-largest submarine sandwich restaurant with 278 locations.
By the start of 2001, the company had closed its public offering and had opened a chain of fitness clubs called 123 Fit by 2005. Ray Wilson was the official partner for this program.
2007 was the peak time for Quiznos, with over 5000 locations in the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, and so on.

They are known for their quality, and it’s heavily highlighted across their stores and website. So obviously, we had high hopes for Quiznos menu and prices.
Quality products cost more; let’s see how Quiznos tackles that. Our first item was a seasonal dish called Queso Philly.
It comes in three size choices: 4, 8, 12 inches, and multiple bread types. Go for default, but we’ll recommend customizing it a bit.
An 8-inch wheat bread is the best-suited one. And yeah, it comes with banana peppers, black Angus steak, sautéed peppers, Queso Blanco cheese, and onions.
The bread is toasted, as you’d expect, which gives it a hamburger vibe in some ways. The filling in particular looks creamy, thanks to the cheese and onion that become soft when heated.
Overall, all ingredients become warm in some ways, making them softer to bite and taking less effort to digest. As they say, a warm meal is a happy meal!
Next was a classic Italian submarine for $9.55. If you are low on funds, then go for flatbread instead of a smaller size. This costs $3 less while giving you a favorable portion.
Anyway, this bad boy is filled with tomatoes, pepperoni, salami, provolone, capicola, ham, black olives, lettuce, and so on.
It had like 20 more items on the list, but let’s skip that for the sake of God! This is enough, and we get that Quiznos serves a massively generous portion.
Well, this thing has a peculiar taste, that’s for sure. Everything is warmed up nicely, which gives it a roasted aroma, which most cold sandwiches lack.
Despite being filled with a lot of mixed ingredients, in the end, they all fall together and create a balanced flavor that has everything from sugar, salt, sour, spicy, etc.

Quiznos redeemed itself with its offering. But is it enough to fix the loss they suffered way back then? Maybe not.
They fell from 2nd to 9th in 2016 with 400 locations. Luck wasn’t on their side, and when the business was catching up, COVID-19 collided with the economy.
Its worldwide lockdown forced Quiznos to close more locations, not just in the US but in other countries too.
Business suffered a lot, but food didn’t. It doesn’t matter what happened behind the back; Quiznos has not even once reduced funds for their food.
Otherwise, it would’ve been at death’s door by now. Anyway, Quiznos is back on track with new recipes on the list, and we hope to see more in the future!
