Smashburger is no small business; it was founded by the leading veterans of the fast food industry.
The first one was Tom Ryan, who previously created the infamous “stuffed crust pizza” for Pizza Hut. But that’s not all; he later served as CCO for McDonald’s.
The second person in this story is Rick Schaden, the former owner of a popular chain called Quiznos.
They came together under the name “Consumer Capital Partners.” Their main goal was to make a mainstream burger that tasted good.
Ryan is a professional with a Ph.D. in flavor, fragrance technology, and lipid toxicology. So he knows what good means; no ordinary burger would come near to satisfy him.
With $15 million on hand, both went on to buy a Denver restaurant to experiment with their dishes and kitchen.
The smashed burger has a big part in the kitchen since it’s made on a flat-top grill instead of BBQ or charcoal.
The same goes for Angus beef and other stuff; fine-tuning these things took about 6 months. The first one was the kitchen, which came out well.
Refrigerators and everything were under or around the kitchen counter, making it easier to get the ingredients instead of walking all over.
They aren’t veterans for nothing; they know what they are doing and are the best at it. The restaurant was finalized after about half a year of hardship and effort.
The unique kitchen layout was standardized, passed the test, and was adapted in all the Smashburger locations later on.
The first store was opened in Denver in 2007. With customization and scalability in mind, Smashburger smashed the market.
It was then expanded to nearby local areas like Houston and Minneapolis, where both founders had worked before and had a good idea about how to conquer them.

We went to the 1169 Chesterfield Crossing and checked everything from top to bottom just for you.
The first order from the business was their signature burger. It has an unbelievable range, and the best part is that each one is made with the same formula.
Crewmates went with their favorite. I personally picked the bacon sausage because it’s been a while since.
This big boy was filled with certified Angus beef and applewood-smoked bacon. It’s a fine combo, and you’ll know why in just a minute.
It was then topped with American cheese, lettuce, mayo, tomatoes, and their toasted bun. Let’s come to the taste, and I have only one word for it: SPLENDID!
It’s perfectly cooked, unlike some stores that avoid cooking it to the center, which usually makes it quite juicy.
But this one was just on another level. Everything was cooked, but still, it retained that sweet juiciness that burger patties need.
I added red onions; it just pairs up well with any fast food at this point. And truly, it made the experience much better.
The red onion’s faint spiciness and the patties’ saltiness are perfection and need no introduction!
Next up was a new addition to the list, and it’s the chicken wings! BBQ wings, to be exact, had six bone-in wings covered with the same BBQ sauce that I had with the burger.
Wait, did I miss that? Ah, my bad. Yeah, I ordered a small cup of BBQ sauce, and man, let me tell you, it was good.
And now we found out that these wings are covered in that same sauce? Damn, count me in!
