Sonny’s BBQ is a private barbecue specialist chain restaurant. They are famous for their Southern-style BBQ. Below you will find out the latest Sonny’s BBQ menu with prices.
Southern Style follows the quality over quantity motto. This means that each slice of meat that they smoke is heated perfectly. They do not throw it into random smoke and then serve it.
Even pitmasters go through intense training, and they are supposed to beat other pitmasters to become one. So why go through all that length?
Well, these pitmasters are the truth behind their brand. They make the only thing everyone loves: BBQ. That’s why it would be a huge disaster if these training systems weren’t in place.
Sonny’s BBQ was once considered the best barbecue restaurant in the USA. So is that true in 2024 too? Let’s find out!

Sonny’s BBQ History
The first Sonny’s BBQ goes back to April 17th, 1968. The pitmaster, Floyd “Sonny” Tillman, opened it with his wife Lucille.
They used a plot on Waldo Road in Gainesville, Florida, as the starting location. But it wouldn’t go anywhere until 1977 when it finally got franchised.
By the year 1988, their small company would have opened its doors to 77 more locations across six states of America. By then, the founding father and his wife had satisfied their main goal.
Which was to deliver the best BBQ that Americans ever had. So after a few years, Sonny’s BBQ was sold to Bob Yarmuth. Their family still runs Sonny’s BBQ to this day.
The current president is James Yarmuth, who is the son of Mr. Bob. Anyway, at the start of the 21st century, Sonny’s BBQ grew to such heights that it was considered the largest BBQ chain in the United States of America.
They had 150 locations active across nine states. But did you know that up until 2013, Sonny’s BBQ was called Sonny’s Real Pit-Bar-B-Q?
That was the original name bestowed on the Tillman family. The nickname of Floyd remained, but the rest of the part was cut short since it was a big name to remember.
Now it’s called Sonny’s BBQ, which is easier to remember. Even though Sonny Tillman sold the company, he still retained ownership until 2011.
Even after that, he was considered a key figure in Sonny’s BBQ. So we would attend most of their fancy meetings and celebrations.
Even his birthday is hugely celebrated across all locations every year. You can even find limited discounts and even lost menu items on that day.
Sonny’s BBQ Review
Sonny’s BBQ menu is filled with barbecue choices like pork, beef, ribs, chicken, and beans. The same goes for veggies too; after all, a balanced diet is everything.
St. Louis Ribs was our fan favorite! It was sweet and smokey, and the tenderness was just fantastic. We received garlic bread, corn slaw, and BBQ beans as the side dishes.
But don’t be limited to those; the side dish option is massive and holds items like Tater Tots, Crinkle-Cut Fries, Original Recipe BBQ Beans, Potato Salad, etc.
It was a rather middle ground between a heavy and light meal. So if you have a huge appetite, then go for half a chicken.
You’ll get the same things except for the main dish. Which is now a smoked chicken half, which is again juicy and tender.
Did we forget to mention that there was also a bottle of Sonny’s Sauce? Well yeah, Sonny’s BBQ menu includes a small bottle of their original sauce in each big meal.
As for this one, you should go with either sweet or smoking BBQ sauce. We went with sweet, but you can be different. Don’t be shy; just keep on experimenting until it feels right!
Each store is run by a certified pitmaster. And with that, Sonny’s BBQ menu at each restaurant includes a special section called Pitmasters Pick.
This section includes the favorite picks from the pitmaster. So in some areas, this part can be different, which is perfectly normal.
Our team went with three meat combos in this section. We could choose which meat this massive plate would include. Along with side dishes and a few bottles of their original sauces.

Final Thoughts
Well, the BBQ items on Sonny’s BBQ seemed infinite! There were family meals, BBQ sandwiches, appetizers, weekday specials, and so on.
Each section had multiple options to pick from, but the sandwich part was just overkill. You could have a new dish every day for an entire month!
That’s how big this is. The lunch menu, kids’ meal, breakfast—just name it, and it shall be there. So, in short, yeah, Sonny’s BBQ menu gets our full points of recommendation.
Meat is extravagant, and the same goes with their sauce bottles and everything else. Even side dishes had a unique flavor to them in a good way. So, what are you waiting for?
