Subway History
Fred DeLuca founded this brand in 1965 at 3851 Main Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut. It was then known as Pete’s Drive-In: Super Submarines.
Wait, who’s Pete? Is this his lover? Or his son? Well no. Actually, there’s a funny story behind this. Pete, or Peter Buck, who wasn’t a big shot at the time.
But he was big enough to lend Fred $1000, which he used to start his business. So technically, Pete is like the co-owner.
It’s safe to say he had a good presence throughout the early days of Subway. His name is lost in history, but, as you should know, he hasn’t lost himself.
The goal of this restaurant wasn’t to serve great meals; instead, it was more self-centered. Fred was studying in medical school, and Pete was moving forward with a doctorate in physics.
It’s an expensive study, so they have to do it. Apart from that, medical means, there are practicals, and those required special items are not freely given by the institutes.
You can already guess where I’m getting at. In short, Pete’s Drive-In: Super Submarines worked as the quick income that would help them advance in their studies.
As time went by, it became clear that their small restaurant wasn’t that small in the eyes of the people.
It was a great place with great offers that didn’t hunger for profit. Or served any weird combo recipe that would ruin their mood.
Pete’s Drive-In: Super Submarines did one thing, and it did that perfectly. The restaurant was renamed multiple times, only to end up at Subway around 1973.
The franchising began one year after that in Wallingford, Connecticut. It reached the West Coast in 1978 and Canada in 1986. The story is simple from here on out. Expand, expand, and explore.
Subway Review
Make sure to take a quick look at the Subway menu prices above. While our review crew entertains you with some of the finest dishes from Subway’s arsenal.
Like the all-new Chicken & Cheese Dipper. These egg roll-looking items will give you a different takeaway on side dishes.
It’s a, or I can say two 6-inch wraps made from a toasted wrap, filled with grilled chicken and American cheese, and comes with one cup of Dipping Sauce.
This item looks simple enough, but let me tell you, the taste says entirely different things. Chicken and cheese is already a weird combo right there.
But the flavors it makes are nowhere near weird. It tastes fantastic! The small chunks of meat go slowly into your mouth.
As the cheese starts melting, a pop sound will occur. That is the grilled meat, and inside is the meat with blasting flavors.
That’s not all, though; the honey mustard sauce gives it a faint spiciness, which just makes it more crave-worthy. Who knew a $3 snack could taste so good?
But how can we forget the elephant in the room? It’s Number #30, Aka the Beast. It’s a real monster of a dish that shoves too much food into your mouth!
Here’s the complete list: lettuce, tomatoes, footlong, MVP Parmesan VinaigretteTM, Artisan Italian, pepperoni, Genoa Salami, oven-roasted turkey, black forest ham, red onions, regular mayonnaise, roast beef, and 2X Provolone.
Sheesh, that’s a real monster right there. Expectedly, multiple layers of protein, along with so many edible greens and blacks, will give you goosebumps.
And the flavors—I can’t even comprehend what I’m having. It’s good—salty, spicy, sweet, oily, and any texture you can imagine.

Final Thoughts
It’s no wonder Subway has a well-balanced menu across all of its categories. None of them are flooded with too many items.
Not too little either. It’s perfection that took more than half a century. And my biggest surprise was The Beast or the aftermath of that monstrosity.
Most people can’t even finish their sides, let alone go for seconds unless you are a bigger beast than the beast!
As for the ratings, it’s obvious that Subway fills all the checkboxes. It’s an icon in this food industry, and it gained enough fame to last for a few more centuries.
I’m looking forward to more unique dishes like those dippers. These new dishes are what we live for, and let’s hope this journey never ends.
