Taco Mac History
Taco Mac was founded by Greg Wakeham and a few other people in 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia. It debuted as a sports bar, focusing mainly on the male audience.
It was famous for providing Mexican and Iris-style dishes on one plate. Slowly, more signature dishes were introduced, like Buffalo Chicken Wings.
Now it holds a lot of items, ranging from everyday fast food items to full-blown steaks and even chicken tenders. It grew pretty rapidly, mostly inside its barrier.
While renovating and making the existing stores bigger as the time comes. It is a sports bar, so cold hard liquor would be included on the menu.
In 2000, the founder, along with two people named Bob Campbell and Joe Ardagna, franchised it as “Tappan Street Restaurant Group.”.
This gave a huge boost to sales and made people willing to franchise Taco Mac in other areas. Over the next 13 or so years, the chain grew to 25 locations across three major states of America.
In 2014, Taco Mac was sold to ECI Partners, a Texas private equity firm. Just four years later, ICI again sold it to Fresh Hospitality for the final time.
The CEO of Fresh Hospitality, Harold Martin Jr., soon became the new CEO of Taco Mac. At this point, Taco Mac had turned into a big deal in Georgia.
Always filled with customers, and the same goes for new items and games that they can enjoy. It was a two-way ticket for both sports lovers and meat destroyers.
Corona Wave also had a big impact, but Taco Mac already had online delivery services in place, so it didn’t affect that much.
Smoke losses were there, but they were compensated later on. As of the article writing, Taco Mac has 28 active locations across the same states.
Taco Mac Review
At this point, everyone should be aware of the Taco Mac menu and prices. Their specialty dishes are well advertised.
As of now, chicken wings are the main spotlight; they were on sale, so we just had to order one. It had three variants: original, roasted, and boneless.
We went with the roasted flavor; the original one is good too; you can definitely go for that without second thoughts.
The used chickens were raised on Taco Mac’s own farm, Springer Mountain Farms. It is naturally raised, which means it’s 100% antibiotic-free.
You can get it from 6 to a massive 50-wing basket. It makes it perfect for family gatherings or when an uninvited guest suddenly pops up.
Anyway, these roasted goodies were definitely one of the best we have had so far. It was crunchy and smokey and did not have any weird additions.
We’ll recommend skipping the side dish that comes along with it instead of going for Southeast Salad. It’s far better than those corn things you’ll get.
It was made with salad greens, black beans, corn, bell peppers, grilled shrimp, avocado, crispy tortilla strips, and chipotle ranch.
Generous portions were given to us, leaving no trace of complaint. It also goes well with the wings, or you can go for regular fries, which also taste quite good.
Next up was Grilled Shrimp Tacos. Shrimp and tacos are quite an interesting combination. Well, seafood doesn’t always taste good until it’s prepared by professional chefs.
In this case, though, it was fantastic. The Asian slaw, chipotle ranch, and green onion topping were perfect too. It didn’t overwhelm; instead, it gave it a rich texture, filling the gap that shrimp dishes usually lack.

It has seen good days, bad days, and probably the worst ones too. Now we can only hope that Taco Mac Red initiates its expansion plan and goes nationwide with their creations.
Their wings had one of the best textures and flavors so far. It’ll go neck-to-neck with Kentucky Fried Chicken, that’s for sure.
