Village Inn History
James Mola and Merton Anderson founded this restaurant in 1958 in Denver. It was named the Village Inn Pancake House.
Village Inn restaurant had many names in the past. Most of them show how many times it was sold. Each owner tweaked the name little by little.
And in the end, it ended up with Village Inn, plain and simple. Anyway, it became incorporated in December of 1959 and soon began franchising itself.
With the help of Dow Sherwood, the first franchised location was opened in Tampa in 1961. Then, in 1982, the first big trade happened with Village Inn.
Vicorp Restaurants, Inc. acquired Village Inn. Just one year later, they acquired another restaurant that offered pie, just like Village Inn, called Poppin’ Fresh Pies.
This second restaurant was renamed Bakers Square. Vicorp then soon acquired 246 more restaurants within the next 2 years and managed all of them.
Village Inn was at its peak, offering other menu items along with its famous pie. By the 1990s, Village Inn had transformed into a casual dining restaurant chain, offering breakfast and dinner menus.
This buying streak went on for quite a while for Vicorp. It resulted in massive profits, but, as always, nothing lasts forever.
Then, in 2008, Vicorp filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed down 56 restaurants from their holdings.
At this point, Village Inn was the most profitable group, so they left 343 Village Inn and Bakery Square restaurants.
To fix this financial crisis, Vicorp tried to find big investors, and in 2009 they found one called American Blue Ribbon Holdings.
This investment company bought a lot of assets from Vicorp, including Village Inn and Bakery Square.
This back and forth went on for quite a while until, in 2021, BBQ Holdings acquired everything from top to bottom.

It’s time for the real deal! Village Inn juicy menu. As of now, you’ll have a clear idea of how much each dish costs.

Anyway, we went to Brandon, Florida. It had almost all the classical menus. But we were looking for something different.
Soon we found ourselves on a fascinating dish called biscuits and gravy with eggs. It’s a loved item among teenagers, and a few students recommended it.
It had sausage patties inside two buttermilk biscuits, then was topped with savory country sausage gravy.
It was sweet, creamy, and had a faint sweet texture thanks to the buttermilk biscuits. You can even choose how the egg is prepared.
Like scrambled, sunny side up, over-easy, etc. Choose the right one carefully; otherwise, it’ll ruin the look of this dish.
Eggs Benedict also looked quite appetizing. This had a classic Two poached eggs and smoked ham over a toasted English muffin, then topped with Hollandaise sauce.
Next on our list was their signature dish, Classic Pumpkin Pie Slice. It’s an award-winning treat made with real pumpkin custard and spiced to perfection.
It had a mixed flavor of Saigon cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg, and everything was baked inside their award-winning pastry crust.
The sweetness of this one was just right—neither too dominating nor too faint. It was just perfect. You can order either a slice or an entire pumpkin pie.
