Mr. Whippy History

Mr. Whippy was founded by Dominic Facchino, a British businessman, in 1958 in Birmingham, West Midlands.

He visited the USA before this in 1957. There he experienced the US uptake of soft-serve ice creams for the first time.

He wanted to franchise Mister Softee in his country but was unable to do so. He was so fascinated by it that he just couldn’t sit still.

Then he used the original recipe that was available to the public and started his own ice cream company serving Soft Serves.

It quickly became a massive success. Mr. Whippy was the only one in the nation who made this, and it’s a given that major food companies would want a piece of it.

So Unilever, the largest producer of soap, took an interest and bought Mr. Whippy in 1966. Remember that Unilever is a massive brand that serves over 190 countries as of today.

Soaps are its signature trade, but it owns many brands like Good Humor, a 100-year-old Ice Cream Van company here in the US.

Anyway, let’s get back to the topic at hand. As of now, the responsibility of Mr. Whippy has been handed over to Wall’s, an ice cream and frozen dessert company owned by Unilever.

Mr. Whippy can also be found in New Zealand and Australia. These two countries got their licenses in 1964 and 1982, respectively.

The logo is different, but the base formula remains the same. The primary form of sale was tied to Vans.

People could book a van for their neighborhood. It would serve there as a reminder of the request and leave for the next as soon as that’s done.

That made the concept of a restaurant fail in comparison, while Van and Mini Stalls were highly praised.

Mr. Whippy Review

Before moving on, make sure to have a quick look at Mr. Whippy menu prices given above. Depending on your country of origin, prices will vary drastically.

For the sake of this review, we’ll have a look at the UK variations. The base model serves multiple flavors of soft-serve ice cream.

The chocolate one is by far the most demanding, the second is vanilla, and the third is caramel. I tried some in the past, and yeah, these soft-serve ones are completely different than normal ice cream.

It feels more like cream than a frozen shake. The temperature is also above regular ice cream. So it just melts immediately without causing a brain freeze.

Mr. Whippy has this weird one called Single Choc Dip. Not gonna lie, this looks like Poop, literally. The chocolate dip can remind you of the morning rush.

Regardless, it has a great and strong flavor. The serving is made from dark chocolate and covered with a hard-shell chocolate dip topping.

The Hard Shell Dip gives it that unusual look. The dark color is more noticeable once the shell is dry enough. Don’t wait too long; the sweet hour will get by and it’ll start Melton.

Did you know that the Soft Serve Ice Cream can also be served as a shake without altering its formula that much? Yeah, and that’s where Raspberry Spider comes in.

It is exactly what it sounds like. It is a shake that uses Mr. Whippy’s soft serve ice cream and mingles it with raspberry soda fizzed, and that’s it!

There are no serious alterations. That’s why it will still taste like ice cream but in a liquid form. Even the temperature is maintained, so it is a cold shake in short.

Final Thoughts

Mr. Whippy is now considered a trademark of soft-serve ice creams. There are other brands too who sell it, but they don’t even come close to Mr. Whippy.

It is backed by one of the world’s largest brands to ever exist. And that future proves it for at least one more century.

It all boils down to what Soft Serve Ice Cream means. Well, everyone knows that. Add a little bit of flavor, and you’ve got yourself an awesome desert.

Its parent company, Wall’s, is a 102-year-old giant that can now be found in India under Kwality Wall’s. Overall, Mr. Whippy won’t die anytime soon, and who knows, maybe one day it’ll arrive in the US as well.
