Rib Crib History
The first RibCrib was opened in 1992 by Bret Chandler in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with one smoker, a shack, and a few recipes of his own.
This small place didn’t offer much in the way of variety—just five meat options with two sides. It wasn’t an instant hit; in fact, his pit-making skills were underwhelming, as was the overall food.
But he didn’t give up; he refined his recipe and took part in countless competitions. He learned all the skills he could gather from these exhibitions.
His recipes started shining after a few years, catching the eye of many customers who became the first generation of loyal fans.
In 5 years, RibCrib expanded to 6 locations. In 2004, Rib Crib saw its first sales increase of 25% and soon planned a co-venture with KFC.
It was to promote that BBQ and fried chicken can pair together and blast away the flavors that everyone is getting so far. This venture was launched in Marshfield, Missouri.
Just next year, Rib Crib appeared in a magazine for the first time. It was listed in the top 50 growth chains by Restaurant Business magazine.
The main goal for Rib Crib was to provide quality hickory smoked meat, and no ordinary Pit Master can do this.
This also meant that anyone working under Rib Crib would get higher incentives than usual due to his demanding job.
That’s why, in 2006, it was again listed as one of the best places to work by Chain Leader magazine.
And the reason behind it was the good wage-to-skill ratio and the standard of the workplace, which had a nice tune to it.
Nothing was stopping RibCrib now, and by 2017, they had over 60 locations across eight states. Each location smoked its meat on the spot.
Rib Crib Review
Do you still have doubts regarding the Rib Crib menu or prices? Well, it’s a barbecue restaurant, so everything will depend on the kind of meat you are ordering.
Our first choice was the Three Bones dish. It doesn’t include a lot of meat, but it still has enough portions to fill a belly.
It comes with three St. Louis ribs, Texas toast, two sides, and one pickle. Go with Okie Rub, which has a tangy flavor that most of us end up with.
Seasoned fries and green beans work best as a side, and the pickle, obviously. And as for the rib, it was smoked all the way to the core, which is how we like it.
The okie rub, on the other hand, created the perfect blend of flavors that just took this simple dish to the next level!
The sweetness on the skin was something to die for. Kind of sticky, which will leave a mark each time you bite it. Then have a bit of a side to clean it up, then repeat the entire thing all over again.
Masterfully crafted, that’s for sure. Next up was a BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, which is well known for its flaming flavors!
Enjoy oil-fried bacon along with caramelized onion, tomato, cheese, and barbecue sauce. Get chips as a side, and yeah, one pickle.
Wow! Bacon with Beef Patty! This unknown duo works so well that we are just speechless. Each bite has a mouthful of ingredients and is quite juicy, too.
The bun was the underwhelming one in this case. It’s just plain and ordinary; maybe add some sesame seeds? Or rub it with some sauce or something? Anyway, there is no doubt that this is a great dish on its own.

Final Thoughts
Overall, Rib Crib has some great dishes in its store. Especially the dishes with ribs; they are just great and must be on the list.
Most dishes have medium and larger portion sizes. No small or kid-size, but in that case, you can go for shareable, which can be eaten by multiple people.
Sauces are another big highlight of this review; the sticky one is great and all, but if all you need is meat, then go for the signature dry rub.
It all started with a single smoker and eventually grew into this giant of a business that smoked tons and tons of meat every day.
Rib Crib is one of those kinds of restaurants where quality time is guaranteed. And with that, it gives us full marks, and we will definitely return to Rib Crib for more!
