Anchor Bar History
Anchor Bar was originally founded by Trank and Teressa Bellissimo in 1935 on Main Street in Buffalo, New York.
The story behind the invention has a funny twist. On March 4, 1964, Dominic, the son of those couples, invited some of his friends to come over for dinner.
His friends had quite an appetite, so Dominic asked his mom, Teressa, to bring out something tasty! In fact, his mother did just that and made a version of fried chicken like never before.
She deep-fried the chicken and then showered it in her signature sauce, which made it as hot as Lava!
This was such a huge hit that their business skyrocketed after that night. His friends shared their delicious experiences with their families, and their families shared them with more people.
The word spread that Frank’s wife made something good; it’s so good that not even old folks could get enough.
Many people asked her for her secret sauce, but obviously, she didn’t. But she gave them a hint. She always used to say, “Authentic Buffalo Wings are never battered or grilled.”
But we have sad news. All the founding figures have lost the battle of time. Frank died in October 1980 at the age of 84.
His wife died in the apartment above the store, just five years later. Dominic took over the business and heavily promoted the signature dish.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t stay for long, and he passed away in 1991. He was only 68 years old. Ivano Toscani took over the role of the owner, who was also a known name throughout the history of Anchor Bar.
He passed away right before COVID struck on November 20, 2018. He was just 8 days away from his 69th birthday.

It’s known as Traditional Wings, and it was the first thing we ordered. It’s a cult classic that still uses almost a century-old recipe.
It comes with celery, carrots, and ranch of your choice. If you pick an additional ranch, the staff will equally spread it across your wings.
That’s so thoughtful of them. Make sure to go for the mid-wing combo. It has eight delicious wings, and as for sauce, go for Spicy BBQ Sauce and Buffalo Lemon Pepper Sauce.
There are tangy and sweet ones too; pick your poison carefully! Hot sauce asks for cold beverages; otherwise, it’s impossible to eat it in one go.
I went for fresh squeezed lemonade, but the tea smells quite good. And yeah, the wings are as good as they are rumored to be.
Perfectly fried, the outer layer is crispy gold, and the sauce is pretty much layered on top of that. The sauce wasn’t as hot as I expected, and yet it had enough firepower to make a grown man cry!
Anchor Bar is also known for its pizza. The signature sauce does wonders even in Mexican cuisines like this.
It’s called Buffalo Chicken Pizza, and it uses the very same grilled chicken showered in their world-famous Anchor Bar wing sauce, mozzarella, and Bleu cheese pizza sauce.
Bad news for spicy lovers, but good news for everyone else. It has a sweet, authentic flavor that isn’t too hot or too cold.
It’s just a perfect blend of things that we don’t know. Whatever it may be, it is certain that it still stands strong to this day.

Final Thoughts
I still have doubts about the big claims they make. But I have no doubts about one thing: the quality.
The spicy wings served here have a nostalgic feeling to them. It doesn’t taste outdated or too modern.
The level of harmony these things showed us is just unbelievable. The franchising didn’t begin until the summer of 2012, despite its godly flavors.
That’s more than 70 years, which is the most shocking part of all. The fact is that it managed to survive all these years with nothing but one special recipe.
On the other hand, we can see many variations, from burgers to bite-sized ones, that have changed the way they operate for the better.
