Hartz Chicken History

Hartz Chicken Inside usamenuprices

W. Lawrence Hartzog Sr. opened the Hartz Chicken restaurant in Texas around 1972. Surprisingly, he was also a friend of the person who founded KFC.

Yup, so you can say Mister Colonel was one of the motivations behind this decision. The corporation behind Hartz Chicken was Hartzog Inc. (also founded by Mr. Lawrence).

He had a good amount of funds, so the initial open locations were ramped up to 45. 13 of them were owned by Hartzog Inc., and the rest were franchised in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia.

First, the very first Hartz Chicken store dates back to 1964 in Mobile, AL. At the time, he only had one goal in mind: “Serve the best fried chicken ever!”

Wayne Johnson was the person who helped him the most. As a result, Hartz Chicken stores in Mobile are now one of the oldest family-run restaurants.

The Johnson family has diligently served Hartz Chicken for three generations, and it seems like they won’t back down anytime soon.

In the 1990s, Hartz Chicken opened a few international restaurants in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Shanghai, China. Both of them were later closed down due to heavy losses in sales.

There were many management rotations from there on. These back and forths continued until the AVAA Agency was named as the agency of record.

That happened in 2018, and it is still going on to this day. They managed all their assets while promoting new menus in the most modern way possible.

Like online campaigns, delivery services, buffets, etc, the Hartz Chicken menu with prices may differ from place to place, the recipe, on the other hand, wouldn’t.

Hartz Chicken menu and prices given above will have a few different items. Some items are store-exclusive, but most of them can be found throughout all of their locations.

Anyway, here comes a list of a few popular menus you have to try. Feeding the family was a crazy one. This was a massive combo pack that came in 4 options: 8, 12, 16, and 20-piece options. In the last option, you’ll get a total of 4 large sides and 12 rolls.

While the rest of them go like 2, 3, and 4 large, along with 4, 6, and 8 roll options. It’s a big, juicy meal, so pick wisely!

Just the name of Krispy Tender Combo made us full. It’s quite similar to the first dish we mentioned. Just that, in this one, you will get more than two kinds of items.

It also has 4 options: 4, 7, 16, and 24 tender combos. The four tender combos include Regular Side, Roll, Gravy, and Regular Drink.

While the 16 and 24 tender combo options have two large sides each, along with 8 and 12 rolls.

But Tejas Wings Combo got us hooked instantly. It is the signature dish of the Hartz Chicken menu. So make sure to try it out, no matter what.

It has 6, 12, 20, and 40-piece options like the first 2. Along with regular side dishes and drinks. Rolls are also included if your stomach can handle it!

Final Thoughts

Hartz Chicken menu and prices were then calculated as a competition for KFC. Remember that KFC was already a big hit at the time?

Even if Mr. Lawrence was one of his friends, that doesn’t mean he gets a clean ticket. And that resulted in a big way.

He had to sell all of his KFC stores around the same time when he opened, and he expanded his chain restaurants around 1972.

After a few times, some more incidents happened, and the Hartz family somehow managed to buy all those stores back. Those stores were then remodeled for Hartz Chicken.

These ups and downs took a big hit on their overall growth. Currently, Hartz Chicken has 65 working stores, both in the US and outside of it.

This number would have grown to a bigger height, but as we know, one’s win is the other’s loss. KFC became the big star while many other fast food companies struggled to keep up.

In the end, all that matters is how they perform from here on out. It’s the peak of the 21st century. This means AI, online services, home delivery, etc.

If Hartz Chicken plays their cards right, then it can grow to a much higher state.
