Shari’s Cafe & Pies History
Ron and Sharon Bergquist started Shari’s in 1978 in Hermiston, Oregon. It was a casual dining restaurant that was open all day.
This 24/7 concept soon gave rise to its popularity and helped countless travelers have a warm meal even late at night.
It was called Shari’s Restaurant at that time, and the original owners ran it for about 7 years before selling it off.
By 1999, Shari’s had almost 100 fully operational locations. But that’s not all; their growth was so massive that it was awarded the title “9th largest family restaurant.”
Along with 6th in growth, which was a massive achievement. By the end of the 20th century, both couples had achieved their main goal.
Which was to serve a warm meal not just in the morning or evening but all the time. Every person deserves a loving meal; it doesn’t matter when they come or where they come.
In March 1999, Fairmont Capital Inc. acquired the entire chain for $60 million, and they had around twice the revenue at the time.
In April 2005, Shari’s lost a lawsuit against gender discrimination and paid $122,225. That same year, Circle Peak Capital acquired it for the first time.
In 2009, Bakers Square Restaurant & Bakery was acquired by Shari’s, growing their overall numbers beyond 100.
Just a few years later, around 2011 and 2012, Shari’s officially acquired its signature name, “Shari’s Cafe & Pies,” along with the new logo that we know today.
Shari’s has quite a few restaurants in the states of Colorado, Arizona, Texas, and Utah. But with time, these locations were closed permanently.
More locations were permanently closed down right after the COVID-19 pandemic ended, reducing their numbers to 76 as of today.
Shari’s Cafe & Pies Review
At this time, everything should be clear about Shari’s Cafe & Pies menu and prices. That’s why they make it quick, but not as fast as tacos. Anyway, these kinds of restaurants usually have a lot of dishes.
Shari’s Cafe & Pies menu, in fact, had countless items ranging from breakfast to dinner. We arrived right around noon, so it was time for something heavy on my tummy.
Then we saw a mouthwatering dish called Sourdough Patty Melt. For the patty, we went with chicken breast.
But you can go for beef or even double down on chicken breast. Most people prefer chicken, so we’ll recommend that.
Bleu Cheese was our preferred cheese option, as was Ranch Pickle Slaw. It was a bit spicy, but it went well with the main menu.
The staff recommended their special B.Y.O. Omelette; how can we say no to that? The BYO thing already had our hopes high.
It sounded funky, which we love in dishes like this. It had cheese, protein, veggies, and two side choices.
We added steak as protein, which cost us extra. Onions for Veggies, along with Crispy Hash Browns and English Muffin.
There was no dedicated lunch dish, so we had to compromise with two items from their list. Shari’s Cafe & Pies prices are quite cheap, so basically it costs around a dedicated lunch meal.
Well, nothing wrong with that; more variety means we can indulge ourselves in not just one but two dishes at once.
As for the Omlet, it was a masterpiece. Who knew omelets and cheese could work so well together?
Lastly, we had gourmet pie slices. It’s the most liked dish from Shari’s Cafe & Pies menu. It had a plethora of flavors to choose from.

Final Thoughts
Chocolate Cream Supreme was by far the greatest of all from their Pie section. Nothing goes wrong with chocolate, so that’s that.
Their hospitality was good too; the atmosphere and the time between order and service were quite impressive.
Shari’s have their acts together under the wings of Carrows and Coco’s Bakery. The official acquisition happened in 2018.
COVID took a big toll on the overall growing streak. However, the new management managed to survive and overcome the challenge.
Well, in the end, all that matters is the service, and they did not disappoint us. It was good, the food was marvelous, and the pie was a true masterpiece in itself.
