Valentino’s Restaurant History
Valentino’s was first spotted at the Campus Fruit Market in Lincoln, NE. It was opened by two brothers called Val and Zena Weiler in 1957.
But this is not the kind of Valentino you are thinking of. Instead, it was a fruit-selling store that had no future.
Just a few years later, it was clear to the Weiler Brothers that this business would not survive. So they tried thinking of some other ideas that would help them survive.
Then they both remembered their family recipes passed down from generation to generation, and those recipes were related to none other than pizzas.
So they took a huge gamble, removed their space, filled it with three dozen pizza pans, a family recipe, and hoped that it would be successful.
Soon, they renamed their store Valentino’s and started baking pizzas. On the first day, they sold $60 worth of pizzas. But this was just the beginning.
Valentino’s restaurant menu and prices were written on a board outside of the store. Meanwhile, the window of the kitchen was opened to spread the fragrance of their pizzas.
This was a fantastic strategy, and soon people started coming here after smelling something tasty. The prices outside of the store were so cheap that people thought it was a fraud.
To their surprise, it was the real deal, with a taste that made them feel at home. Their growth streak just started pouring in after this.
Then the franchising began after Valentino’s was purchased by two Lincoln families in 1971. Then the new owners took over and renovated the entire thing.
Focused on hygiene and decoration, the new Valentino’s restaurants were new and more powerful than before.
After the signature look was established, take-out-only stores started opening in 1990, followed by buffets in 2000.
Valentino’s Restaurant Review
After hearing all about their classic pizza, we just had to try out the real deal. So without further ado, we order Val’s original special.
This masterpiece was made with hamburger, ground Italian sausage, pepperoni, honey-cured ham, and fresh mushrooms.
It came in six size options, from a 6-inch mini pizza to a 16-inch jumbo slice. And yeah, there was a 10-inch gluten-free option too, if you prefer that one.
Meanwhile, the crust had three options. First, it was the original crust that came in gluten-free variations as well. Meanwhile, the third one was called Sensational Thin Crust.
We went with the usual 10-inch crust with the original flavor. And man, this was so good. I even thought of going with seconds, but then my friend stopped me.
There was another one called Lo Zio Luigi. It had their traditional ground Italian sausage and spicy, pinched Italian sausage with fresh, diced green peppers and onions.
A pretty combo made by Uncle Louie. Who is he? Well, we have no idea, but this much is certain: he was a genius.
It was time for some salad to balance everything out, so we had a quick look at Valentino’s Restaurant menu. This category had 8 options. We went with Insalta because it sounded funky.
Valentino’s restaurant menu and prices are reasonable for the most part. As for this one, it was just $13 considering the level of ingredients it had.
Here’s the list of everything: Iceberg/Romaine lettuce, fresh mushrooms, tomato, grated Romano cheese, croutons, black olives, and red onion rings are served together with their famous creamy Italian salad dressing.
Sheesh! That was a long one, and let’s not forget that each ingredient is fresh. None of them were cold or reheated, which just enhanced the overall texture.
Final Thoughts
Now Valentino’s has buffet restaurants. It’ll be like all-you-can-eat, but on a rather expensive side. So if you want to experience their might, then go for takeout or dine-in, whichever fits right in your pocket.
Let’s say you want to dine in, then just type “Valentino’s Restaurant menu prices” in Google and it’ll redirect you to their official website.
Then you can find your nearest Valentino’s or even order online. It’s like killing two birds with one store.
Anyway, Valentino’s truly offers one of the best pizzas that America has to offer. As of today, they have over 30 active locations in Nebraska.
