Chipotle Mexican Grill History
Steve Ells opened the first location at 1644 East Evans Avenue, Denver, Colorado, on July 13, 1993. It was a former location of the Dolly Madison Ice Cream store.
Steve attended the CIA before he entered into this industry. Oh yeah, that’s not the kind of CIA you may be thinking.
It actually stands for The Culinary Institute of America, which gave birth to many genius chefs. He took his classes in Hyde Park, New York.
After his studies, he went to San Francisco and worked for a few years as a line cook. He was just a newborn at the time, learning things and absorbing them to the best of his knowledge.
One day he stumbled upon the Madison District, which is known to be the birthplace of many legendary restaurants.
There he experienced the taquerías and San Francisco burritos for the first time. The Tex-Mex wasn’t new to him. He already had a couple of these from other places.
He didn’t have a lasting impression, so he didn’t bother moving forward in the industry. But this encounter in Madison District sparked a flame in his chest.
This flame would later be known as Chipotle, a 3500-location massive franchise now known for its red chili pepper logo.
But this isn’t this easy at first. A business needs funds, and no one will invest in a concept of nobody. So his only way was to get a business loan.
He and his father applied for it at the University of Denver. They eventually got approved and allowed with an $85,000 loan.
After some careful calculations, they found out that they must sell 107 burritos per day to fulfill the installments. And you know what? He sold more than double on the first day.
Chipotle Mexican Grill Review
Chipotle and its sauce need no introduction. But one thing might, and it’s the Chipotle menu with prices 2024. So keep an eye on that, especially for those pesky discounts.
The location of Washington, Boston, was closer to our current whereabouts. It’s right across from the Old South Meeting House.
Anyways, let’s start with a quick burrito with smoked brisket. This is a limited-time-only choice that will run for a couple more days.
It uses a smoked steak brisket sliced into cubes and then filled in the burrito with white or brown rice, black or pinto beans, fresh tomato salsa, cheese, fajita veggies, and Tomatillo-Red chili sauce.
Each part can be customized since there are no pre-made choices for the classic burritos. You can always go for our combo, which is the best in my opinion.
The smoked bacon is a must-have if it’s available. The smokey flavor with the sweet texture of beef makes these burritos more desirable than ever.
While the traditional salsa and the tomatillo sauce give it a pinch of hot and sweet taste. There are no secret recipes; it’s all plain and simple with such a low price that you can eat it twice a day without going broke.
Burrito Bowl is another best dish from Chipotle. It gives you virtually the same customization options with your choice of freshly grilled meat or sofritas.
But the only difference is the serving. This time it’s served in a bowl. Which makes the eating part pretty convenient.
There is no difference in flavor, which is the biggest selling point of this dish. It tastes exactly like the classic one, with a larger portion and a choice to roll it yourself or eat it bit by bit. Either way, it’s one crazy feast I can’t deny ever!

Final Thoughts
This article was more like a dedicated praising session for Chipotle Mexican Grill. It says grill, but there’s hardly any separate grilled meat like other girls.
This is literally Mexican fast food, or a true TexMex through and through. The grill part comes from its grilled protein picks for your favorite burritos.
Apart from that, Chipotle is a great Mexican fast food chain with over 3400 locations in North America and a few others in Canada, the UK, France, Germany, and Kuwait.
It was king on day one, and it is still one right now. Or we can say it’s an emperor, which probably won’t make sense. Anyway, it gets 10/10 from us—a perfect getaway for sudden hunger bursts!
