Gloria Jean’s Coffees History
This chain was founded by Gloria Jean Kvetko in a small town called Long Grove, right outside Chicago, Illinois.
It was the year 1979, and the initiative started as a small coffee and gift shop. It got the attention of another coffee brand called Diedrich Coffee in July 1999.
They bought the franchising rights and started the expansion project. There were about 50 franchised stores by the end of the 20th century.
The international expansion started in 1995 thanks to two big names from Australia, Nabi Saleh and Peter Irvine.
It’s no surprise that they got the franchising rights to Gloria Jean’s Coffees for Australia and simply branded it as Gloria Jean’s Coffees Australia.
It makes it clear where this one is selling their beans. The first Australian store was opened at Westfield Miranda, Sydney, and the second one in a 14-day gap at Westfield Eastgardens.
Both are in Sydney, not so far from each other. By the end of the 20th century, Gloria Jean’s Coffees Australia had about 185 privately owned stores and over 100 franchised ones.
In short, the Australian branches were more successful, and by 2004, they had acquired all international locations except the United States of America and Puerto Rico.
There was a new company called Gloria Jean’s Coffees International, established to maintain non-Australian territories.
But everything changed in 2009 when Gloria Jean’s Coffees International bought the United States of America and Puerto Rico sides of the stores.
Claiming exclusive rights while North American Gloria Jean’s Coffee Stores were untouched, Diedrich Coffee retained its right to use the brand’s name.
And yeah, there were some pretty nasty controversies too. Like the overuse of sugar and fat content, breaking a joint venture agreement, and probably the worst one, the donation to the Australian Christian Lobby.
Gloria Jean’s Coffees Review
Coffee is a fascinating drink. You can drink it cold, hot, or something in between. The temperature affects flavors so much that it’s just mind-boggling.
That’s why you should make sure to check out Gloria Jean’s Coffees menu and prices above. Otherwise, you’ll miss out on many good drinks, like Coco Loco, for example.
It’s an original Gloria Jean recipe that has been their signature mocha for generations at this point.
It uses a special blend of dark chocolate powder, which produces a cold aroma. Only your tastebuds can smell it!
The cherry on top is the whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles, which can basically be counted as toppings for this cold coffee.
Fantastic flavor. Has a mild bitterness, but the sweetness covers the entire thing. Still, the bitter part doesn’t make the drink taste bad; it kind of makes it better.
It’s the aftertaste, and that’s the best part about this particular drink. Chocolate Caramel Avalanche is the next drink on our list.
It’s a fan favorite that uses three dominant flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and caramel, and then transforms it into something like never seen before.
The base ingredient is steamed 2% milk. This one small sip keeps all flavors tightly packed in.
Then it uses another harmonizer called GJ’s Espresso Blend before adding Madagascar vanilla powder, dark chocolate powder, and caramel pecan syrup.
As for the toppings, expect the same whipped cream with some powdered caramel. This simple drink has some of the weirdest combinations.
I can say it has an interesting taste. Too sweet for me, though. The vanilla and chocolate have the most aroma out of the three.
The whipped cream and the top part deserve some praise too. It’s not to change or enhance flavors. And yet, it feels like a perfect thing to have.

Cafés are a small part of our society. But it always manages to make our day lively. Warm or cold, coffee can have a massive impact.
It can even give us an invisible strength that sticks around until the day ends. Gloria Jean’s Coffee has the same power inside.
Some are complicated, some are simple, and some are just straight-up hot water and powdered beans. Still, each sip has an unusual feeling that gives us hope to survive another day.
In conclusion, Gloria Jean’s Coffees is 9/10. Most coffeehouses include some breakfast options. Coffee goes well with bread and maybe a French toast.
