LongHorn Steakhouse History

LongHorn Steakhouse Inside

It all began in 1981 with George McKerrow Jr. and Brian. McKerrow. It was back then known as LongHorn Steaks Restaurant & Saloon.

It opened on Peachtree Street in Atlanta. The building was originally an antique store that later turned into an adult entertainment business.

And at last, it was acquired by McKerrow for his new business venture. He previously worked as a manager at Quinn’s Mill Restaurant.

So it’s a given that his knowledge far exceeds that of any ordinary dreamer. Therefore, he was quick with his plan and found a good place to start.

Atlanta is home to many startups that later became quite big. Anyway, the building was filled with past remnants.

So the founder decided to decorate a lot of steer heads and western paraphernalia on top of those. But who cares about that? The main goal of a restaurant is to serve food.

One of the first exclusive dishes that LongHorn served was the steaks grilled in a butter sauce. There was another big factor, and it was known as Harrison’s on Peachtree.

It was the name of a popular pub that was located right across the street. It was a specialty place that offered a limited number of beverages.

So customers would regularly visit the LongHorn from across the street for a quick, warm meal. The business itself wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t good either.

It was owned by RARE Hospitality International Inc. at the time. And the lack of steady growth was putting big pressure on McKerrow.

But the tides turned big time when the SnowJam 82 struck. Then a lot of people were trapped in particular places.

LongHorn then decided to offer single-dollar drinks and a menu catered to the trapped motorists. The real story began after that!

LongHorn Steakhouse Review

Do you love steak? Then you’ll surely want to take a look at the LongHorn Steakhouse menu prices given above. Just make sure to mark down the good ones, so you can just dive right in.

Our own venture began with Flo’s Filet®. This is the first meal that McKerrow served in the LongHorn.

This iconic item is still being served after all these years. 1981 was the year one, and now it’s the year 43.

This tender cut is showered with their signature grill seasoning. That’s not all. Do you remember the word “butter” from our history segment?

It turns out that they still use the same butter to sear the meat. It gave it a strong but classic buttery flavor.

You can also choose two side dishes. I went for a mixed green salad and seasoned rice. As far as the flavors go, it’s terrific!

The outside is literally burning with butter. It’s a bit oily, but it pairs well with the seasoned rice. It washes away the oil so I can have the next bite and experience the exact same effects as the first one.

This 6-ounce piece looks small on paper, but it took a lot to finish. The flavors were so good that we just had to savor each bite slowly and steadily.

We actually missed the appetizers. Somehow they placed it on the next page instead of on page one. Anyway, our preferred choice was the spicy chicken bites.

A massive portion of the freshest hand-breaded chicken. It is deep-fried and tossed in a homemade chili-finger sauce. It’s tangy by nature, and that’s what appetizers need.

It’s crave-worthy and makes your mouth water just by looking at it. I believe this is the first time I have had it. And I can say, it’s interesting.
