As for our main subject, it’s a small chain with five locations currently running. Its logo has an outline of a chef wearing heavy-rimmed glasses.

Enough small talk; now let’s have a quick look at Chi-Chi’s pizza menu and prices. Expect a wide range of wines and beers, as that’s a signature staple here.

Chi-Chi’s Pizza History

Frank Paul Miccolis founded this chain in 1958 in Panorama City. He moved here from Gary, Indiana, along with his lovely wife, Ida Mae.

He was known as a judge in his friend circle for his charming intellect. He even worked as a chef in his younger days.

His father, who surprisingly had the same name as him, taught him everything, and eventually, the son started working in his outlets located in the Gary and South Bend areas.

This seems like the perfect time to explain what the other Chi-Chi’s are. The European-originated chain had the same stuff as this; some can even say that the one being operated here may have some ties with the European one.

It had multiple stores in Europe, Canada, and the USA. However, the competition, lawsuits, and unfortunate incidents with the Hepatitis A outbreak destroyed its business entirely.

2004 was when it saw its demise and never managed to recover. Anyhow, most people will be able to identify the difference just by looking.

Today’s candidate goes by Chi-Chi’s Pizza, while the second one has no pizza in it. The logo is quite different too, the European one being only text with no graphical representations.

While the Californian branch has a logo of a chef wearing round glasses, it’s portrayed against the judge himself.

The biggest difference may be the name, where our judge based it on his father, who had an interesting nickname, Cicci Paul.

It was pronounced as Chi-Chi Paul, and that’s where the brand name comes in. The other one was based on the founder’s wife, whose first name was Chi Chi.

Anyway, the difference should be clear by now. As for the main topic, there isn’t much to talk about. It’s a small chain that is known quite well in its locality.

Chi-Chi’s Pizza Review

Chi-Chi’s has a massive lineup for dinner and lunch items. We will be going at noon, so you can expect some great wings on the table.

But if you want dinner, then head over to our second segment and have a good look at Chi-Chi’s Pizza menu and prices.

Our journey began with some Chi-Chi’s chicken tenders. It’s the top seller for a reason, and she is here to learn that.

It’s an old-west oven-fried recipe that uses chicken tenders, which is obvious. It’s hand-breaded and fried in peanut oil for that perfect flavor.

It’s taken off once it’s golden crisp, and then it’s served with your choice of dipping sauce. Just get tomato-basil meatless. That’s the best one.

Plus, it was made with locally grown ingredients, which just gave it a massive, strong aroma. It’s the best; don’t think twice.

At first glance, it looks better than the KFC chicken tenders. These are some large pieces for such a low price.

The sauce also came in a slightly larger bottle. The thick piece asks for a big bowl, so that’s a good thing to have.

As far as the flavor goes, Chi-Chi’s has it covered. Tenders are so juicy that all these sauces feel like a waste.

I can literally eat all of it without any dip. Some seasoned potato fries were ordered later on for the remaining dipping sauce.

Overall, it’s a great meal for 13–14 dollars. You may get it much cheaper during festival seasons; at that point, it’s a steal!

We had a few flourless chocolate cakes in the end. Super rich and dense. Has all the moisture that a chocolate cake has. It feels good when chewed; the fluffy inside blasts off the chocolatey goodies, and it just tastes awesome.

Final Thoughts

Both dishes are highly recommended especially the tenders. Both had to dominate flavors that I liked.

The lack of salad was a big hit for me. Usually, that’s a permanent part of any restaurant. It’s a small chain, so better not expect anything extraordinary.

Whatever Chi-Chi’s has right now is complete and made by highly talented people. They prefer quality over quantity, which is a good thing.

But it’s totally reversed when it comes to serving. The 66-year-old legacy is still intact, and it’ll only get better. Finally, we have to say that Chi-Chi’s goes on our most preferred list. 10/10 without any doubts!
